Unit 66/Applications of 3D

Photographic research

For my 3D Modelling unit i have researched several different photographs of different potion rooms for inspiration when creating my own. The first images i researched were images of the potion room set from the Harry potter series; I got photographs from different angles of the room in order to get an idea of what it looks like from all angles of the room. This helped me get an idea of how to create my set, and also helped me what objects to create to put into it. This particular room is built in dome shape, so to make my potion just as unique as this one I will be taking inspiration from the these three images when creating my model.
When I create my potion room I will not just be looking at the potion rooms interior design, but I will also be looking at features within the room that i can inspire myself to create to make look as realistic as possible. For example a couple of things i have decided to take inspiration from and create is the table in the centre of the room, and also the object sitting on the surface of it, (cauldron, potion bottles etc). I will be putting my own style and unique twist when creating detail on my models, this is so the object will be my own and i have created it in a specific way in a way that it wouldn't be the exactly the same. I am doing this due to the fact that i want to be able use my skills into making my own models rather than to copy someone else's ideas, also it is to avoid copy write.

Unit 66/Proposal

3D Modelling Proposal

Working title: Potion Room

Application/Visual Style
For my 3D Modelling project the scene I have decided to choose is the CGI Element for a film. (On the specification it stated that it was a sci-fi theme however I have slightly changed this to a fantasy theme.) The scene will include a variety of models using mesh construction methods. I will be re-creating the potion room from the film Harry Potter series, I have decided to make this as I will really enjoy making the models and it will give me the chance to develop the techniques I have learned into making unusual and unique models. Each model will represent an object from the fantasy world, for example a potion bottle would be used in a potion room that ingredients are kept in, therefore it is an important feature to have in this scene.

Target Audience
As I have watched all the Harry Potter films I understand the target audience will range from around 12 years and over. As it being a fantasy theme the choice of colour’s will be quite dark and gloomy and the models I will be making will be brightly lit; the room itself that I will be creating will be quite dark also. Alongside the film Harry Potter I will be making a potion room similar to the set they made; however I will be putting my own unique quality to it.

Object to be modelled
To make my potion room I will making a number of different models;
1) The first model I will be creating is a Potion Bottle, I will be making a series of unusual potion bottles and placing them in different parts of the room; I will be making complex potion bottle shapes with a lot of detail, others will be made a lot simpler. I will be creating simpler bottles than complex as I need to make time to create my other models; however I will be paying attention to detail on every potion bottle I make.
2) The second model I will be creating is a Potion Book; every potion room must have a potion book and that is exactly why I have decided to create one. I will be using the official harry potter text from a website called 'da font' and I will be using this as the front cover. The colour of the book will be dark and I am going to make it to look like the book has be worn out; the font will be gold or white so the title is seen.
3) A Potion Jar will be the next thing I tend to create. Like the potion bottle I will be duplicating the potion jar a number of times till I have several.  To save time all potion jars will look the same they will just have a different liquids and different labels.
4) A Table is crucial object to have as a centre piece in the room;, therefore has to be the most realistic and detailed model in the room. When making the table I will paying attention to detail, my idea for the table is to make it look old and as it has been used for a long time, my aim is to make a table that looks workout, as well as other little details to make it look ancient. The table will be the biggest model I will be making.
5) The next model I will be making is the Cauldron, the cauldron will be in the center of the table and it will be the second biggest model created. It will have a Smokey green liquid and it will be brightly coloured; the cauldron will be black and have marks to make it look old and rusty, the cauldron will also have a stirrer that will match the cauldron and I will be making a wooden one to place inside the cauldron.
6) The final model I have chosen to make is a series of Shelves. The shelves will be the easiest model to make, I will be making a wooden shelf and duplicating them a number of times to place other objects on them. With the shelves it will make the potion room look more like a room than a set. There will be more of these than any model I am making but with the shelves it will feel more like a potion room.

Legal and Ethical Requirements
To avoid copy write I understand the legal and ethical considerations I have to follow; to avoid copy write I will not be making a model exactly the same as its original. All models will have their own unique quality to it that I will be creating or they will be made from an idea I made on my own.
