Making the potion book was harder than I first expected, however the end result turned out better than i hoped it would. To start i used the cube and scaled the thickness of it right down to look like a cover of a book. After i this i simply duplicated it once to make the back cover. The next thing i created was the laith, this was a bit more complicated to make as i had to use a different shape. The shape i used to make the laith was the cylinder tool; I scaled it down to the right size so each end touched the edge of the top and bottom of both the covers. After this I selected half of the shape with the points tool and highlighted exactly half of the laith (inside the book). and deleted it to make a curve, the shape started to come together and eventually looked like lathe. When the basic shape of the book started to come together i then started to create the pages for the book; to do this i duplicated the front cover of the book and made it thinner to about the same thickness a book page would be, I made the first page and I duplicated it a number of times till i had quite a few of them, until it started looking like a book. Up to now I had a plain book shape without any materials so the next step was to add the materials to the different objects. Firstly I used the harry potter original "ADVANCED POTION MAKING" book used in the 5th film. I simply took an image of the front book cover and saved in my files, on cinema 4D I open the materials window and selected upload texture, i selected the image and came up on the bottom right of the screen under materials. I dragged this onto the cover, it fitted nicely on the cover so no adjustments were needed, however i rotated it 180 degrees so it was the right way round. The cover was completed, i then had to find the right materials to but on all of the other objects. The second material i decided to use was just a colour and was the easiest material to create, to match the themes of the front cover so I used a dark blue colour and put dragged this onto the lathe and the back cover. The final material I had to find was a material to place onto the pages, in order to make it look like a realistic potion book I didn't use the materials that were already on the software. In google i searched book page and clicked on images to view images of lots of different book pages. I chose one at random as they all looked similar and saved it as an image; like the front cover image i uploaded it as a material and dragged onto every individual page. This took some time to compete but it was worth while as the end result was impressive.

I created three different books but didn't make the two others i made from scratch; I got different covers of potion books and changed the laith, back and front cover. The second potion book has a cover which also used on the spine of the book, i decided to this as the majority of books will be going on the book case so the spine is face towards to the room. I though with just one book design with a different spine it would make the books look completely different. For the third potion book got another image from google and uploaded it as a material and placed it on the cover, I matched the back and spine to the colours from the front cover. With all three designs I used the same pages and just changed the front back and spine, i feel the objects i have created have been successfully made as they look realistic and also look like what they are meant to be. When I eventually finished creating a range of different potion books I duplicated them multiple times to place inside the the previous bookcase model that i had made, I duplicated as many as i could to fit inside the bookcase with the different lathes facing the front to showcase the different potion books I made, this made the bookcase and the potion books stand out a whole lot more.
